Even a new touted CEO can\'t guarantee that the IRL is going to survive. It is certain that it will have a season for 2011 though. Tony Kanaan has no sponsorship at Anretti Motorsports due to longtime sponsor 7 eleven dropping out. But who could blame them. The races are rarely seen on TV and very few people buy tickets to the races. The Indy 500 really is the only advertising opportunity. So Tony managed to get a ride at Deferran Dragon where he will try to take an uncompetitive team that has had Penske resources and turn them into a contender. Tony can do it. In 2004 he completed every lap of every race. Something so improbable it is amazing. Kanaan is one of the best drivers there is even now in his 30\'s. The guy does triathlons. I've found a new stat to love: my son's weight and height percentiles. He turned 1 month old over the weekend so this morning we trooped over to the doctor for a check up, and I must say I'm just totally into knowing where he hits the averages (for those that don't mind indulging me, he's long and lean, hitting the length/height charts at the 80th percentile and weight charts at the 15th percentile; am going to refer to him as my Lean, Mean, Fighting Machine until he catches up in the weight category).

Sometimes though averages and stats don't help at all...as those of you who used this week's Consensus Start/Sit list might have figured out. Let's take a look at today's links:

I think it's written into baby law somewhere that all newborns shall be dressed up in costume for Halloween, so of course there has been some discussion in our household about the best Halloween costume for our little dude. We went with a prefab football costume (what could be more appropriate, right?) that arrived recently and appears to be made for a freaking 4-year-old not an infant as marketed. We'll see if we can get our dude into it without looking like the droopiest little football, but hey, it's good to know that we now have a costume for him for years to come.

Consensus Start/Sit Week 1 - 2010 season

Greetings, FFers. I've been spending this September 11th basking in the greatness of football, really. Started off the day with a quick interview with the FantasyPros911 guys on their SIRIUSXM show, and have been enjoying college football since then. I've got my Week 1 consensus start/sit list for you below but first I wanted to update you on the winner of the Buffalo Wild Wings lawn chair contest. There were 85 guesses submitted for the number of combined rushing yards that Pierre Thomas and Adrian Peterson would put up on Thursday night, and the total between the two was 158 yards (87 yards for Peterson, 71 yards for Thomas). Two sage readers guessed 157 yards so I drew a name from a hat and UMGrrl won the big lawn chair prize - congrats, UMGrrl! Don't worry I sent a koozie, a small token of BWW tailgating goodness, to the runner up, Scott, as well. While I don't have any more lawn chairs to give away, I do have more koozies so keep your eyes open for more of these contests in the future. Who doesn't want to keep their beer or other beverage of their choice frosty cold on Sundays?!

So onto the consensus start/sit. For those who are new to the blog this season, keep in mind that the consensus start/sit is not my own list on who to start or sit, but instead is a tally of all these great links you've read throughout the week. I go through each of these start/sit sites and record which players got the most votes as a start or sit. It's basically a consensus from the experts on which players you should start or sit, outside of the obvious studs and duds...with the caveat that you should always take into account your own team makeup and scoring system when making these decisions.

Hmm, I could get down with a fantasy football world where every week there's some outstanding young whippersnapper (as my grandpa really and truly used to say) that busts out with 3 TDs. Sadly I seem to have been on the receiving end of the Best and McCoy destruction this week as most of my opponents seemed to somehow have one of the two guys, but since I already know I beat my FF nemesis this week, nothing seems to be fazing me. I'm happily curled up on the couch watching the Broncos vs Bengals game, wondering just how Tim Tebow is going to look tonight. I feel like I can admit to you all that I'm actually watching and enjoying preseason football, something not many can relate to...except perhaps our grocery delivery dude (yeah, I know, we're ridiculous for getting our groceries delivered but it's cheaper and easier than going to the grocery store! Really!) - he told me he felt that many preseason games were actually better than regular season games. Hmm. Not jumping on that bandwagon but I'm still pretty entertained right now.

Something else you'll want to keep in mind for draft day - scheduling for the fantasy playoffs. Keeping in mind that a lot can change in a year and we'll know more about the strength of defenses soon, this Scheduling for Success article from Rotoworld still has a great deal of value. As noted, this list can help you make some serious tie breaking decisions.
I'm still tracking down PPR rankings just to see what's available out there and The Sports Outlaw has PPR rankings up by position - standard scoring is also available off that page. Keep in mind that a lot of sites are likely going to tweak their rankings after this weekend's games so anticipate that these rankings will be updated soon.

Many of you have e-mailed for a copy of my average rankings position spreadsheet (updated this weekend to include ranking within position and bye week info) but have also expressed interest in ADP (average draft position) info. FFArmory.com takes a look back at 2009's Top 40 RBs to tally up their number of games with 20+ carries and 20+ touches (carries + receptions). Probably not shocking info for most of you but it is some good food for thought; makes you wonder what some of these guys could do given a few more touches.
Finally, a much-discussed topic in fantasyland every year: 3rd-year receivers. CBSSports.com's The class of third-year receivers does a nice job of summarizing the reasons you should be interested in this theory and focus in on 15 guys who could impress/surprise this year.
